Simple, stylish with inspirations of wellbeing.

Our brief for this busy inner-city suburb surgeons consulting reception is to create a space that felt warm, inviting, calming and comfortable for patients while they waited for their appointments.

Our brief was to ensure the reception area for a busy surgeons’ consulting room felt warm, inviting, calming and comfortable for patients while they waited for their appointments. To inspire patients’ wellbeing, we referenced the 5 elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal & Water – with solid timber table tops, rich flame-coloured artwork, decorative potted plants, white powder coated steel table bases, and polished chrome chair legs sitting on a sea of black carpet.

With limited space, it was vital to make selections that were simple, stylish, and understated to trick the eye into believing it is a comfortable, spacious room. Slimline, deep-quilted leather guest chairs with polished chrome legs, provided the solution to achieving maximum seating capacity whilst also adding texture and depth to the otherwise flat walls. In the centre of the waiting room, we placed a large round timber top coffee table with a white powder coated steel base. This was a practical solution for both the storage of reading material and to enable physical circulation. Natural grass weave wallpaper was applied to an existing reception counter fascia, while overhead cabinets were re-painted and decorated with clusters of potted greenery. Splashes of colour came via the incredible photographic artwork of Isamu Sawa and the stunning purple glass and copper table lamps with black shades.
